The new Karthi - Rakul Preet Singh starrer Dev has come out with pretty average opening day collections. The opening day TN gross is said to be around 2.7 crore with the Chennai city gross being 51 lakhs. The film doesn’t have much of a future in the Telugu states either, with the dubbed version registering poor openings. Dev has been turned down by critics and viewers alike, and we have to see how it holds on in theaters once the weekdays begin next week. The writing was on the wall from the moment the Feb 14 morning show ended to lukewarm response.
Feb 22 will have three noteworthy releases in the form of Kanne Kalaimane, LKG and 90 ML. The National Award winning To Let will release on Feb 21st. All these films belong to diverse genres and cater to different audience groups. They will cause a severe dent in the show count of Dev in its second week.
After the highly successful Theeran and Kadai Kutty Singam, looks like Karthi has slipped with this film; he will be looking to bounce back with his next film with director Lokesh Kanagaraj. Heroine Rakul’s track record in Tamil has also been weakened with Dev; Theeran remains her only Tamil hit so far.
