Mohanlal, fondly addressed as ‘Lalettan’, by his countless fans has been conferred with the Padma Bhushan honour by the Indian government. He received the honour from the Indian President Mr Ram Nath Kovind, earlier in the day. We congratulate the legendary actor for his latest and biggest in a long line of awards and honours that he has received over the course of his long, celebrated career as a lead actor in Indian cinema.
We also had a word with young actress Parvatii Nair, who shared the screen space with Mohanlal in the Malayalam film Neerali last year. This is what Parvatii said about ‘Padma Bhushan’ Mohanlal, “I’d seen so many of Mohanlal sir’s films before working with him in Neerali. He has mesmerised me with his serious films and comedy entertainers. When I worked with him, I realized that whatever I’ve heard and seen of him on screen are absolutely true. " She feels Mohanlal's dedication towards his art is at a different level. "Everyone who is active in films is passionate and committed towards his or her craft. But Mohanlal sir’s commitment and dedication are at an altogether different level. It’s as if he was born for cinema, lives for cinema, thinks about it all the time and enjoys every little aspect of it. He enjoys even moments of pain! When someone is so passionate and in love with his work, it’s only natural that the work rewards him back with honors like Padma Bhushan. He is also someone who never interferes with others’ work at the shooting spot and is completely devoted to his work.” Parvatii comes across as a definite 'Lalettan' fan girl.
Prabhudeva and Shankar Mahadevan also received their Padma Awards from President Ram Nath Kovind in New Delhi. 56 of the 112 awardees announced earlier this year received their honours On Monday. Kader Khan who died last December at the age of 81 was posthumously honoured with the Padma Shri.
