Gangs of Madras is the second directorial venture of producer CV Kumar. His first film as a director was Maayavan which had an interesting storyline and satisfied the critics but not the common audience. The film featured Sundeep Kishan as the lead and was narrated intelligently. Not the one to get bogged down by failures, Kumar is ready with his second directorial Gangs of Madras. The first look teaser of this film was unveiled by Dhanush and it has clearly kindled the interests of movie buffs.
The teaser unravels through the voice of the female gangster protagonist who says, “A small line separates desire and need”. The standard prototype of a gangster in Tamil films is men and very rarely we get to see women gangsters and that too young ones. Perhaps Gangs of Madras will fill in that void. Priyanka Ruth is portraying the role of a gangster and as you can see in this first look teaser, she has correctly fitted into her role. The background score smoothly blends with the proceedings on screen.
In Tamil cinema, if a film can be called as the pioneer in gangster flicks, Aaranya Kaandam will win the title hands down. In that sense, the trailer does remind the viewer about the cult classic of Thiagarajan Kumararaja. If Gangs of Madras offers something different and fresh from the current gangster films, it is sure to win a place in the annals of Tamil films. We need to wait for a while for the film’s release. The movie features Ashok, Daniel Balaji, Velu Prabhakaran, Naren and Bagavathy Perumal. The film’s songs have been composed by Hari Dafusia and the cinematography is by Karthick K Thillai.
