The principal shoot for Kamal Haasan – Shankar’s Indian 2 has gone on floors in Chennai on Friday, at grand sets erected at the outskirts of the Chennai city. The team has launched three special posters to celebrate the start of shoot, calling it ‘Indian 2 day’. Kamal Haasan returns to the iconic character of Senapathy, a 95-year-old man who stops at nothing in order to cut down the corruption rate in the country.
Interestingly, Vasanthabalan, an erstwhile associate of Shankar, has revealed some interesting facts about how the first part of Indian came into being. After watching Shankar’s debut film Gentleman, it was indeed Superstar Rajinikanth who called up the director and asked him for a script. After Shankar narrated Indian to him, Rajinikanth was extremely interested to do the film but unfortunately could not allocate dates due to his packed schedule at that time. Later, Shankar took the same script to Kamal Haasan who got into the film with glee and made it one of his most memorable characters in history.
Cinephiles also compare Shankar’s pleasant surprises to the changeover of Endhiran’s script from Kamal Haasan to Rajinikanth. At first, Shankar had narrated the script of Endhiran to Kamal Haasan and had even completed a photo shoot along with the actor and Preity Zinta. But due to time and budget constraints, the project was put on the backburner, only to be brought back to life by Rajinikanth.
So that’s how the story of Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan interchanging projects came to life. Tit for tat!
