Looks like Akhil Akkineni will finally land his first decent hit in Telugu cinema after his first two films, Akhil and Hello, failed to take off in a big way. His latest film Mr Majnu opened in theaters on January 25th and has received good reviews and a more than fair opening at the box office. The film is doing particularly well in cities like Hyderabad and Bangalore. It’s a glossy romance drama with the young actor getting favourable opinions for his dance skills and screen presence.
The film’s director Venky Atluri seems to have scored big again in the romance genre after last year’s super hit love story Tholi Prema. Composer Thaman’s melodious, peppy music has aided the director’s cause again. Nidhi Agerwal is the lead heroine in Mr Majnu which has reportedly collected a worldwide theatrical share of 4.35 cr on its first day. The film’s total theatrical rights are worth 24 cr and the opening momentum is pretty good.
Meanwhile, the first new Tamil release after the Pongal biggies, Charlie Chaplin 2 has failed to make an impact. The reviews are on the negative side and the box office opening is non-existent. The film is a comedy entertainer starring the latest Padma Shri awardee Prabhu Deva in the lead role.
