A couple of days ago, the entire Tamil film industry went into a deep shock. E4 Entertainment, producers of Varma, the Tamil remake of the Telugu film Arjun Reddy, which was directed by Bala, announced (through a press note) that they were very unhappy with Bala’s work and that they were shelving the entire film.
This announcement came after the movie was totally shot, trailer released and was ready for a theatrical release on the 14th of February. The film is the debut vehicle of Dhruv Vikram, son of Chiyaan Vikram. The note stated that they are going to totally revamp the crew including the director and start work soon. They also planned to release the film by June 2019.
Ever since this announcement came, there were widespread speculations about who is going to direct the new one. There were talks that Gautham Vasudev Menon (who had worked with Vikram in Dhruva Natchathiram) will be brought in to replace Bala.
But our sources strongly denied this. They said, “It is not true that Gautham Menon will be directing the new Varma. It is absolutely false. The announcement about the new director will, very soon, be revealed”.
There are also talks that some producers and directors were very angry with this issue and that they wanted the present version of Varma to be shown to them to decide if the decision to oust Bala was right or wrong. However, it is not yet confirmed. It is also surprising that director Bala is yet to come out and give his statement.
