Jaya Prada ruled the big screen for years in many languages - Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi and Bengali. She was undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and talented actresses our country has ever produced. She then made a seamless switch to politics by joining the Telugu Desam Party, in 1994. A decade later, she switched parties and joined the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and after winning the elections from Rampur, become an MP (Member of Parliament) from 2004 to 2014.
However, her political career faced a major crisis when her opponent from the Samajwadi Party - Azam Khan, allegedly distributed morphed pictures of Jaya Prada and minister Amar Singh, in her constituency. In a recent media interaction at the Queensline International Festival, she also alleged that Azam Khan arranged to have an acid attack on her and that her whole life had been at stake, during that time. She said that every time she stepped out of her house, she wasn't even sure if she would return alive. The most shocking revelation came when she stated that following all the name slandering and rumour mongering, she was contemplating suicide. Jaya Prada revealed that she felt cornered and that only Amar Singh, whom she considers as her mentor and godfather, was supportive of her.
