Director Lenin Rajendran was a visionary who wanted to improve Malayalam cinema in many ways, apart from making top-notch movies! His ideas and thoughts were always focussed towards how better he could take Mollywood forward. One of his ideas was to construct a conceptualised theatre, to celebrate 90 years of Malayalam cinema, with this being the theme behind the theatre! The idea for this theatre was floated to the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) and they have completed building it in just four months.
This conceptual theatre, would be the newest theatre under the aegis of the KSFDC in Thiruvananthapuram, following Kairali, Sree, Kalabhavan and Nila. We now have confirmation that the theatre is ready and it will be inaugurated by the Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Lenin Rajendran was a former President of the KSFDC and passed away last month, following health issues. Talking about the theatre, Deepa D Nair, the managing director of KSFDC said, “The plan to build the theatre had begun seven months ago and the work was finished in four months. As was his dream, it has all the latest facilities.”
This theatre will open for the public from March 1st and will screen four shows a day. Located on the third floor of the KSRTC Terminal Complex in Thampanoor, this theatre will have a capacity of 150 seats and will be equipped with advanced 3D systems, Dolby Atmos sound and 4K 3D projection. The design theme has incorporated all 90 years of Malayalam cinema. The KSFDC has announced that it is planning to construct a number of theatres in other places of Kerala too.
