Lmk March 11 2019, 2.25 pmThere were some rumours doing the rounds that the release of Raghava Lawrence’s upcoming Muni 4 / Kanchana 3 would be postponed to May 1 from the earlier planned date of April 19. This would have meant a direct clash with Sivakartikeyan’s Mr Local which had already announced a May 1st release. The makers of Kanchana 3 have refuted such claims with a press release now that the film would be releasing on April 19th as planned earlier.
The Tamil Nadu leg of the Indian General elections would happen on 18th April and Kanchana 3 would be releasing the very next day. Sun Pictures would be marketing and releasing the film in a typically grand manner in the state. The film is in the final stage of post-production currently. After the huge success of the earlier parts in this long running horror-comedy franchise, nothing less is expected from this 4th part.

It must be noted that Vishal’s Ayogya has also announced a release on April 19th, with Screen Scene being the Tamil Nadu distributors of the film. Will it be a direct clash between Kanchana 3 and Ayogya? In general, there is some uncertainty in the Kollywood trade regarding the April releases due to the election factor. The results would be announced on May 23rd and there is a feeling that the elections would dominate public interest this summer. We also have the IPL to attract the audience away from cinema. A highly competitive summer ahead for the Tamil industry!
