The elections for the various posts on the governing council of the Telugu Movie Artistes' Association (MAA), were conducted very recently and the results are now out! The election vote counting happened early on Monday morning and the results were announced shortly. Senior star Naresh trumped veteran character artiste Shivaji Raja to become the MAA's new President. Naresh secured 268 votes while Shivaji Raja got only 199 votes. Shivaji Raja was the sitting President of the MAA but was unable to retain his position.
Including the President's post, many top positions on the Executive Committee were won by people from Naresh's team. Naresh is the newly elected President while Dr Rajasekhar became the Executive Vice President. Hema and SV Krishna Reddy were elected as the Vice Presidents and Jeevitha Rajasekhar became the General Secretary and Goutham Raju & Shiva Balaji have become elected as Joint Secretaries. All elected office bearers will be serving a two year tenure, till 2021! Talking about these elections, an industry analyst said, "Naresh and his team won the election mainly because they had the support of many senior artistes like Mahesh Babu, Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna, among others!
There are speculations that most of the industry stars were not happy with the functioning of the previous office bearers and wanted a change in personnel. Talking about these elections, on a condition of anonymity, an industry bigwig mentioned, "Each person should only hold the President's post of the MAA for only 1 term. Every new aspirant should get an equal opportunity. Even if it was me, I wouldn't contest for a second term." Talking about the elections, veteran star Nagababu said, "Naresh did a very good job in his last term as General Secretary of the MAA, so I supported him this time. Also, I was disappointed with the last term's office bearers!"
The newly elected Executive Committee members include Ali, Ravi Prakash, Tanikella Bharani, Saikumar, Anitha Choudhry, Edida Sriram and 12 others!
