The legendary Mammootty is as active as ever, with back to back releases. Last week, he wowed audiences with his restrained and classy performance in director Ram’s Peranbu. The film is doing fair business in the urban centres of TN and Kerala in its 2nd weekend now. This week, Mammootty has just had his Yatra released to very good reviews and response in the Telugu states, Kerala and the USA.
Mammootty’s performance as the former Andhra Pradesh CM Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy is being lapped up by the audience and there are comments that there couldn't have been a better alternative for Mammootty. He has proven the naysayers, who were doubting if a Malayalam actor would be able to portray a celebrated Telugu leader convincingly, wrong.
The film’s total worldwide theatrical rights are valued at around 10 CR and the first-day share is about 3 CR; the share from the Telugu states is about 2.25 CR. This is a solid start and Yatra is expected to emerge a hit. Yatra's gross in the USA has crossed the 100K$ mark after the opening day and the preceding premiere day. This is already the best ever opening in the USA for Mammootty. Mahi V Raghav has written and directed Yatra.
