Veteran cinematographer, PC Sreeram has been elected as the President of South Indian Cinematographers Association (SICA) again. A Karthik Raja and S Saravanan have been elected as his deputies. SICA elections happen once in two years and since the term of the previous team had ended, the election for the new team was announced to be held on 10th of February.
Lyricist Piraisoodan was the chief election officer for this election. Senior members of SICA, K V Kanniappan, Muneer Ahmed and Kasthuri Murthy were also appointed to oversee the election process. PC Sreeram's team had announced to contest in this election and had filed their papers. Opposing team had also filed their papers.

Meanwhile, a case was filed in Chennai High Court against the SICA elections. A gentleman named Babu had filed a case stating that the SICA election cannot be held as there was no general body meeting before the announcement of the election date, which is not right. However, the court had dismissed this case and upheld the election date.
The twist in the entire tale happened the very next day when the opposing team of PC Sreeram totally withdrew from contesting. Post this, it was expected that PC Sreeram would be announced to be elected unopposed. However since the ballot paper with the names of the contestants had already been printed, the governing council was forced to conduct the elections. The elections were held on the 10th of February from 8 am to 5 pm. Following this, votes were counted till 12 in the night. As expected, PC Sreeram was announced to have won the elections.
