It has now been often seen that youngsters don't realize what they are doing for their social media pages and at times, some have gone way too over board! Selfies and videos have become so common that the youth just can’t stop posting on the digital world. Leaving no place unexplored for their social media craze, people have now started the trend in gurudwaras also. Recently, we saw a viral video in which a girl was seen dancing for a Tik Tok video inside the parkarma of The Golden Temple! Another video which was afloat online was of a young girl entering a gurughar while posing for a Tik Tok video.
Taking these acts into consideration, The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), which manages Sikh shrines, has banned photography and videography in the precincts of the Golden Temple. The management has put a notice board in the marbled periphery of the Sikh shrine, prohibiting devotees to click photos and make videos, an SGPC official said.
Though the notice of prohibition of videography and photography inside Darbar Sahib has been put since long but seems like the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee would be taking strict action from now on. This wise decision has been taken by the committee to maintain respect and spiritual atmosphere inside the gurudwaras.
Though SGPC clarified that the restriction is not applicable on varied photojournalists who are on the job of covering the visits by dignitaries and other events of religious or political significance inside the premises. Also, any professional documentary makers too remain out of the prohibition but the shoot shall be allowed only if they have taken prior permission from the SGPC.
