NTR: Mahanayakudu is directed by Krish and stars Balakrishna, Vidya Balan, Nandamuri Kalyanram and Rana Daggubati in the lead roles. After the huge failure of the first part NTR: Kathanayakudu, the second part titled NTR: Mahanayakudu opened today in theaters worldwide. While the former was about the rise of NTR as a superstar in cinema, the latest part is about his rise as a politician in AP. While the release of the first part on Jan 9th was accompanied with a lot of hype and hoopla, the second part has seen a lowkey release with not much of a promotional push from the makers.
It seems that the big failure of Kathanayakudu has dampened their spirits and also the audience’s. The reviews for Mahanayakudu are decent, without being extraordinary. The first part also received fair reviews but crashed at the box office after a decent opening day. The total worldwide theatrical share of the first part was just about 21 crore as against an investment of 70 crore.
Can the second part do any bitter and lift the spirits of the stakeholders who have already lost a lot of money on the film? Unfortunately the early trade reports don’t look too promising for Mahanayakudu, which is off to a really dull start, with no special early morning shows too in AP and TS. The US premieres of the film saw a gross of just $101,460 From 111 locations. The film will need a really miraculous turnaround in the coming days; looks unlikely though! We’ll keep you posted.
