Resul Pookutty, the Oscar-winning sound engineer that India has produced has always made a positive difference to the films that he works and amps them up a few notches. Ten years ago he won an Oscar along with Richard Pryke and Ian Tapp for best sound mixing in Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire at the 81st Annual Academy Awards in 2009. But the celebrated sound engineer is looking to widen his prowess.
He has always said that he has nurtured a desire to direct a film. In a recent media interaction, Resul stated that he would be making his directorial debut in Hindi. He was quoted as saying, "As a production company, Le Penta Motion Pictures, we have been developing content in the last three years. We are ready with five top of the line India-centric stories that have a global appeal which many studios are interested in”.

Resul will be producing as well as directing this flick. The film that is said to be titled Sarpakal and will have a mix of Indian and international actors as part of the cast. Kamlesh Pandey, who wrote Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Rang De Basanti and Delhi 6, has written the script. According to reports, the film is expected to be on the lines of the Oscar-winning franchise, Lord of The Rings. It will go on floors in 2020.
When asked if Resul would continue his job in the sound department, now that he will be foraying into direction and production, he said, “With all this, my first love, sound, will continue to grow and I'm in a very innovative phase in introducing new technology in sound to the world cinema”.
Earlier in 2019, Resul Pookutty was elected as one of the Board Members of Motion Pictures Sound Editors Guild Of America.
