Though Petta has been a highly successful outing in Tamil Nadu and continues to set the cash registers ringing even after 25 days in theatres, the film hasn’t been able to do much with its Telugu dubbed version which also had a simultaneous release on 10th January. The Telugu version (titled Peta) had to contend with tough competition from films like F2, Vinaya Vidheya Rama and the NTR biopic. The content of Petta was also more suited to the Tamil audience unlike the universal 2.0 which did phenomenal business in the Telugu states.
The closing share of Peta in the Telugu states is just 6 CR, which is said to be the lowest for Rajinikanth in a long time. The closing Telugu gross of Peta is 12 CR. It must be noted that in the Telugu states, even Kaala could manage a share of 7 CR, which is marginally better than Petta.
In Karnataka, Petta would be closing with a gross of close to 18.5 CR gross. It can be considered a successful venture, though there would be a minor loss for the involved stakeholders. Petta is the all-time No.3 Kollywood grosser in Karnataka after 2.0 and Kabali - all Rajinikanth films!Read More
