Though Udhay Stalin is largely concentrating on his acting ventures now apart from producing most of his films, he also makes it a point to distribute quality films every now and then in TN. Last year, the film Oru Kuppa Kathai got a fair degree of reach and acceptance largely only due to the fact that Udhay released the film in the state. Most recently he also released superstar Rajinikanth’s Petta in a few key areas of the state to successful results. In a recent interview, he opened up more about Petta’s success.
“I don’t want to get into details of the Viswasam - Petta collection debates which have caused heated arguments on social media. All I can say is that both films have been extremely successful. As one associated with Petta, I can confidently say that the film’s collections exceeded my expectations. I saw the film only recently and liked what I saw; it was like a good old mass Superstar film. When Rajini sir came home recently to invite us for Soundarya’s marriage, he sounded very happy about Petta’s performance and congratulated me for releasing the film. When I told him the collection details, he was jubilant," said Udhay.
When asked if he would get back to actively producing big star films like how he used to do a few years back (Kuruvi, Manmadhan Ambu, 7am Arivu to name a few), Udhay said that the cinema business isn’t very conducive now mainly due to the ever-increasing star salaries.
