Right from the time she did Arundathi, Anushka Shetty has a liking towards historical and mythological films. Even in her last outing Bhaagamathie, the actress played the role of an angry queen taking revenge. And now, Anushka Shetty has been roped in for a film on Lord Ayyappan. It will be ace cinematographer Santosh Sivan’s next directorial venture, following the Malayalam film Jack n Jill which he is currently handling. Santosh also has plans to call in AR Rahman to compose music for the film, as it will be an important aspect that needs to be handled delicately, without hurting the sentiments of the devotees.
The project which will go on floors in August this year has been written by Prashanth. Touted to be made in four Indian languages – Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi, it will be bankrolled on a big budget by Gokulam Gopalan. Anushka, who is about to start work on her next project Silence, will be looking to complete the majority of her portions before starting this film. Silence, which also has Madhavan, Anjali and Shalini Pandey in the cast, is a bilingual directed by Hemant Madhukar.
Meanwhile, Santosh Sivan’s Jack n Jill is briskly progressing in Kerala. The film stars Manju Warrier, Kalidas Jayaram, Soubin Shahir and many other names and is touted to be a thriller. However, all of his directorial work will be put on standby when he gets going with the big Superstar Rajinikanth – AR Murugadoss film which goes on floors by the end of this month.
