Even though ace producer Dil Raju acquired the remake rights of 96 even before the release of the film, he has been through a lot of confusion in order to get the project going. Being such a successful film in Tamil, the producer had a huge responsibility on his shoulders to carry the core well, and that could be done only with an apt star cast. After various considerations such as Allu Arjun, Nani, and Gopichand, it looks like Dil Raju has zeroed in on young actor Sharwanand for the remake.
But the real surprise comes now, with the producer being adamant on bringing in Samantha to take up Trisha’s role which was indeed the biggest talking point of the film. The actress had watched 96 earlier and had even tweeted that it shouldn’t be remade, but it looks like she will reconsider her decision to make inroads into this project.
Prem Kumar, who directed the original version, will be reprising his duties here as well in order to maintain the look and feel of his own work. The film’s pre-production process is now underway with shoot to go on floors in February. If all goes well, it will see a release during the Dussehra holidays of 2019.
