The two new Tamil films this Friday were Thuppakki Munai, starring Vikram Prabhu and Hansika, and Johnny, starring Prashanth and Sanchita Shetty. Thuppakki Munai has received fairly good reviews and is being acclaimed as Vikram Prabhu’s best film in the past 4 years or so. It must be noted that he has been reeling under back to back flops after his glorious initial phase between 2012 - 2014. Thuppakki Munai has been directed by Dinesh Selvaraj and it is the story of an encounter specialist cop. Popular Chennai RJ Sha has acted in a pivotal role in the film and he has, in fact, earned the appreciation of Thalapathy Vijay when the two bumped into each other at a recent wedding reception.
We have to see if Thuppakki Munai can translate all its good reviews into good numbers at the box-office. The film’s lead pair badly needs a hit now. Johnny, meanwhile, is the remake of the Bollywood sleeper hit Johnny Gaddar. The film has a largely uninteresting screenplay despite the presence of popular actors and a proven story. But there are no needless songs to mar the proceedings further. Sanchita Shetty is purely there for the glamour aspect while Prashanth (who was once a very popular actor in Kollywood) still looks good on screen despite the many extra pounds that he carries now. Johnny is most likely to be removed from theatres within a week.
