Ever since the dates for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections have been announced, political parties are working overtime to chalk out their strategies, poll alliance, agenda, candidates list and other things. In Tamil Nadu, cinema plays an integral role in the selection of government and the state has enjoyed the rule of many Chief Ministers who belonged to the tinsel world. In this election we would see the participation of Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan through his party Makkal Needhi Maiam.
A spokesperson from the party had announced, “Makkal Needhi Maiam President Kamal Haasan will release the list of candidates for 2019 Lok Sabha Polls and for by elections on March 20 (Wednesday)”. It has to be stated here that Kamal Haasan was also in talks with the popular parties of the state viz. DMK and AIADMK for a poll alliance. Fortunately or unfortunately the talks did not pan out in the way the Indian star had envisaged which resulted in him announcing that he would go all alone in this election.
Kamal Haasan has been given the symbol of torch light for his party Makkal Needhi Maiam. As of now, there are not many from the film industry to have joined Kamal’s political party but for a few like comedian Kovai Sarala. Key members who are advisers to Ulaganayagan are actress Sri Priya, writer/director Suka, Kameela Nasser and professor Gnanasambandham. Superstar Rajinikanth was much expected to join politics and launch his party but for reasons known only to the actor, the Petta hero disappointed his fans when he announced that he is not going to launch his party in the near future.
