We’ve been reporting regularly about the box office exploits of Tollywood’s recent Pongal release, F2: Fun and Frustration, directed by Anil Ravipudi and produced by Dil Raju. The latest milestones in its remarkable run are the Rs 60 crore worldwide share mark and the Rs 100 crore WW gross mark. These are great numbers for a film without a big mass hero. Though Venkatesh is a veteran actor with a large fan base, he is known mostly for his comedy based family dramas like how F2 also is. This is the first time that a Venkatesh film has grossed more than Rs 100 crore worldwide. It’s also the first Rs 100 crore grosser for the film’s other hero Varun Tej.
F2 is expected to cross the Rs 70 crore WW share mark this coming weekend. This is a fantastic return on investment for a film whose total theatrical rights were sold for Rs 32 crore pre-release. Like last year’s Geetha Govindam, F2 is also an extremely profitable venture for all its stakeholders.
F2 is the 3rd South Indian Rs 100 crore+ grosser this year, after Petta and Viswasam which were the big Pongal releases in Tamil cinema. On the whole, this Pongal season has seen some outright winners all over the South.
