Ahead of the release of the film next Friday, the Ispade Rajavum Idhaya Raniyum (IRIR) team met the media in Chennai on Friday evening to talk about their film in detail. The highlight of the meet was when actor Ponvannan, who plays Harish’s father in the film, said that he could see traces of a younger Shah Rukh Khan while observing Harish in the songs of IRIR, and that if he works accordingly, he could fetch a good name for himself not just in Tamil cinema but Indian cinema as a whole. Harish clearly didn’t see this coming from Ponvannan and expressed his surprise while addressing the gathering.
2 songs from the film were also screened for the first time, and 22 year old DoP Kavin Raj’s work is quite brilliant. Sam CS’ songs for the film have already worked well in radio and online charts, with ‘Kannamma’, sung by Anirudh, constantly on the top.
‘Sandali’ (changed to ‘Sanjali’ on screen due to objections from the censor board) has been shot in exotic hilly locations up North. Harish Kalyan has done well as the intense, passionate, zoned out loverboy who goes through an up and down romance relationship. Shilpa Manjunath is the heroine and she has admirably dubbed in her own voice, in just her 2nd Tamil film. The heroine looks elder and more mature compared to the hero; one wonders if the story demanded such a casting. We have to see the film to find out more.
