Thala Ajith’s mega Tamil blockbuster Viswasam, directed by Siva, had its Telugu dubbed version released last Friday in the Telugu states. The film hasn’t received a positive response there. The really delayed release (50 days after the release of the Tamil original), the official online release on Amazon Prime and the poor promotions and market awareness, are being cited as reasons for the underwhelming response to the Telugu version.
The trade buzz is that the Telugu distributors NNR Films didn’t receive any extra promotional materials from the film’s producer Sathya Jyothi Films. Viswasam Telugu will mostly exhaust its run in its 1st week, with not much of a show count in the 2nd week. It was required to get a break even share of 2.5 crore in the Telugu states; that looks like a far off dream now. Ajith unfortunately continues to struggle to notch a Hit in Telugu, despite his exalted status in Kollywood.
Viswasam’s Kannada dubbed version Jaga Malla will release in Karnataka on Thursday, March 7th. The Telugu dubbed version will also release on 7th March in Karnataka. The Tamil version has already completed more than 50 days in Bangalore, and interestingly all the three language versions of the film will be playing now in the city.
Viswasam has grossed close to 190 crore worldwide totally and unless the film does miraculously well in Karnataka now with its Kannada and Telugu dubbed versions, it will fall short of the 200 crore gross mark.
