Santhanam’s latest horror comedy entertainer Dhilluku Dhuddu 2 is having a smooth run at the box office. The film grossed around Rs 10 crore after its opening 4 days in TN; the Chennai city gross is more than Rs 2 crore for the opening 5 days. We had reported earlier about how Santhanam was unusually quiet and understated at the pre-release press meet of the film last week. He had said that he would like the film to speak for itself; now it looks like the film has indeed stood tall on its merits.
It must be noted that the first part of Dhilluku Dhuddu, which released in 2016, had grossed Rs 22 crore in Tamil Nadu and was declared a blockbuster. We have to see if DD 2 can cross the numbers of the first part in the state. The immense competition in every weekend going forward may act as a deterrent for DD 2’s run. After the release of Dev on Feb 14th, we’ll know the extent of DD 2’s success. If the film can hold on well in its 2nd weekend, then it can make a push towards the first part’s numbers.
The director of Dhilluku Dhuddu, Rambhala is meanwhile busy completing his next film Daavu, starring Chandramouli and Reba Monica in the lead roles. This will again be a horror comedy like the director’s DD franchise.
