The year 1997 saw the release of India's most expensive movie of those times, Ratchagan! This movie, directed by Praveen Gandhi and produced by KT Kunjumon (of Gentleman & Kadhalan fame), became an instant hit amongst the audiences. Starring Akkineni Nagarjuna and former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen in the lead, the film also saw Raghuvaran, SP Balasubrahmanyam, Girish Karnad and Vadivelu as part of the cast. The songs of this movie composed by AR Rahman, became quite a rage among youngsters and topped the charts for quite a long time.
Nagarjuna lived the role of the angry young man and it is till date considered as one of the best movies of his career. This movie was dubbed and released in Telugu as Rakshakudu, on the same date as the Tamil release. For quite some time now, we have been hearing reports that Praveen Gandhi has been wanting to remake this movie. There are also reports that Akkineni Nagarjuna's son Naga Chaithanya will be roped in to play the lead in this remake.
On hearing these reports, we got in touch with director Praveen Gandhi to clarify the details. He stated, "Yes, we are having thoughts of making a project related to Ratchagan but the talks are still very much in the initial stages of discussion only. It is surprising that you guys are already aware of this."
Let's see if Naga Chaitanya bags the role and step into his father's shoes for this film.
