The new episode of Koffee With Karan season six featuring Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar is out and it was an episode we've been waiting for. The two powerhouses of talent have never shared a frame together and even as fans have been waiting to see them together on the big screen, they'll have to settle for a joint small screen appearance first. But trust us when we tell you that it was fun. Their camaraderie on Karan Johar's show will make you long to see them in a film together. But before you read any further and haven't watched the episode yet, FYI there are spoilers in this piece.
There's no doubt that Bhumi and Rajkummar are one of the most talented actors we have in the industry, but in the movies that they have done, we haven't seen them dancing much. So, the show starts with Rao and Pednekar showing off their moves on Shah Rukh Khan's Chaiya Chaiya and OMG, Rajkummar can dance. After warming up with the dance, Karan begins the show with an interesting question he got from social media. 'When will Bhumi and Rajkummar play rich people on the big screen?' "When Karan Johar will cast us," was Rajkummar's quick reply. Bhumi too added that she's dying to play a rich character.
Further in the show Karan's mom Hiroo Johar called in and spoke with Bhumi and Rajkummar. We went on to ask Bhumi how she lost so much of weight. It seems to be a rather pertinent question given that a whole lot of fans too want to know the answer to that. But Bhumi did not oblige and kept the secret to herself. Another question from social media is one that's been on our mind too. 'Will Bhumi ever work with Shah Rukh Khan?' To which she replied, "I really hope I do." This makes us wonder if this was a hint because we have been reading reports that Bhumi might play SRK's wife in the Rakesh Sharma biopic. But this episode was shot a few weeks back and now, reportedly, SRK himself has opted out of the film. OUCH
It was time to talk about the relationship and we all know that Rao has been dating Patralekha for the past eight to nine years, but the two have not decided to get married yet. When Karan probed about marriage plans, Rao said, "Mentally I am not ready to get married. We are in a happy relationship. Our parents are not complaining and there’s no pressure to get married." Meanwhile, while speaking of Patralekha feeling insecure about Rao's co-stars, the actor revealed that there was a time when she warned him about an actress. But Rajkummar didn't take the name of the actress, obviously!
It was time for some hilarious revelations. Karan revealed that he once met Bhumi in Berlin and she told him that she knows a place here that is a heritage restaurant which was around 100 years old. When Karan reached there, the person there asked him kya khayega tu and Karan told Bhumi that even in Berlin she got him to a dhaba.
This was not your usual KWK. There was some serious conversation too. With Bhumi and Rajkummar in the kouch, NEPOTISM was bound to be brought up! So, Karan called Bhumi and Rajkummar the poster boys for the anti-nepotism movement. When Karan asked them, if they felt like outsiders, Bhumi said, "When you start a new journey, it is going to be alien at first and eventually people are very accepting, people have been so nice to me. I never felt out of place." Rao added, "I think when I was looking for work after LSD (Love Sex Aur Dhokha)... there was not really a lot of work. Probably, if I was an insider, people would have pushed me. After giving two back to back successful films, I was still doing smaller parts." But well, Karan ended it with a strong quote, "Nepotism or not, eventually, talent is what rocks." We are sure Kangana would be quite happy to hear that.
For the uninitiated, prior to becoming an actress, Bhumi was an assistant casting director at YRF. The actress revealed that she auditioned actors like Rajkummar Rao, Ranveer Singh, Kriti Sanon, Disha Patani and even Parineeti Chopra. On being probed by Karan about how the audition of these actors were, Bhumi said that Disha's was kachcha, Rajkummar's was thik-thak and Parineeti's was very good. By the way, she has also been accused of spoiling other people's audition because she wanted to become an actress. Bhumi revealed, "I have people who go up to my friends and be like pata hai isne jaan buchke hamara audition kharab kiya because she wanted to do." We also get to see Bhumi's audition and we must say she was quite good at it.
Now it was time for the Rapid Fire round and it started with Bhumi. She clearly made a lot of revelations. She was quizzed about when she began feeling like a star and the actress replied saying when people in Chambal recognised her and called her Toilet ki Bhumi. When asked who the one director she is ready to give away a kidney to work with, the answer was pat, "Sanjay Leela Bhansali." We are sure there are many actors who are ready to do that.
During the game Never Have I Ever, Bhumi answered the questions without much hesitation. "Did you ever regret a casting decision," asked Karan. To which she replied, "Many times.". Then he asked if she ever regretted saying I love you, the answer was, "Always" and if she ever had a crush on a co-star, and the reply was, "Many times." We will be wondering who it is! Is it Akshay Kumar, Ayushmann Khurrana, Sushant Singh Rajput or Neil Bhoopalam? By the way, if given a choice, the actress would prefer a no-strings-attached relationship over a serious boyfriend.
Bhumi was rather honest on this show. She wants to steal a lot of things from other celebs. She revealed on the show that she would like to steal Karan Johar's lifestyle, Alia Bhatt's movies and Anushka Sharma's husband. In this rapid-fire round, Bhumi also made a revelation that she stalks Ameesha Patel on social media. And let's not forget she would like to date Nick Jonas too.
Coming to Rajkummar Rao, were not much happy with his rapid-fire as the actor tried to play safe. He said he would love to go on a date with Deepika Padukone, he feels that he is an overrated actor and he is dying to work with Alia Bhatt. Moving forward, Rao revealed that he was nervous to meet Shah Rukh Khan, he had a crush on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and he would prefer a blockbuster movie over a National Award. But Rajkummar can afford to say that given he already has a National Award to his credit. Now, it's all about the money, honey!
We are sure you can guess who the winner is.
Finally, it was time for the buzzer game and both Bhumi and Rao performed quite well, but the Rajkummar won the game, proving that he has more friends in the industry. Why do we say so? Watch the episode!
