Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Amrita Rao's Thackeray hits the screens on Friday. Knowing that it is a biopic on late Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray, the film's political connection is inevitable, and quite evident as well. The story of Thackeray has been also penned by active Shiv Sena member Sanjay Raut while his wife Varsha Raut is reportedly one of the co-producers. The political party seems to be taking active measures in the film's development as well as release.
On Friday, Sena members reportedly created a ruckus at a theatre in Navi Mumbai since the theatre didn't display a poster of Thackeray. The incident took place at Inox theatre outside the Vashi railway station, reports Mirror. While many members arrived to watch the film, they didn't find a poster of it although other films' posters were visible. As they started raising slogans, they were assured that Thackeray's posters would be put up as well.
Proactive about the visibility of the film, Shiv Sena had earlier demanded that no other film should release on the day Thackeray released. Emraan Hashmi's Why Cheat India which was earlier locking horns with Thackeray, preponed itself for a week but denied being pressurised by Shiv Sena for the same. Kangana Ranaut's Manikarnika, however, did not move its date and clashes with Thackeray this Friday.
