Akkineni Naga Chaitanya to play late grandfather Akkineni Nageswara Rao in Savitri biopic Mahanati
If media reports are anything to go by, actor Akkineni Naga Chaitanya has finally given his nod to play his late grandfather Akkineni Nageswara Rao in the in the much-awaited biopic on yesteryear actress Savitri, Mahanati. However, the makers are yet to make any official statement regarding the development.
ANR and Savitri was a super hit pair on the big screen and ruled the hearts of many with their chemistry in movies like Devadas and Mayabazaar. Apparently, he has allotted two days – March 14 and 15 to shoot a cameo. He’s expected to share screen space along with Jr. NTR, who has been approached to play his grandfather, the legendary actor Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao.
Mahanati will reportedly be magnum opus period film set in the golden era. The Tamil-Telugu bilingual also boasts other stars like Dulquer Salmaan, Keerthy Suresh, Samantha Akkineni, Vijay Deverakonda, Shalini Pandey, Prakash Raj and Mohan Babu in pivotal roles. While Keerthy Suresh will essay the titular role, Dulquer Salmaan is set to play Gemini Ganesan, Savitri’s husband. Keerthy Suresh had recently revealed that this is the most challenging project of her career to date.
It seems that the gen-Y stars in south are eager to portray yesteryear superstars on the silver screen. Speaking about casting Dulquer as Gemini Ganesan, director Nag Ashwin had earlier said, “Dulquer’s character of Gemini Ganesan will not merely be on how the legend will be perceived today based on his work and his image. The character goes beyond the physical resemblance, in understanding the veteran on a more emotional level.”
The makers are contemplating getting the movie dubbed in Malayalam as well. Produced by Vyjayanthi Movies, the film is expected to hit the screens on March 31.
