Turkish group hacks twitter account of Anupam Kher and other prominent Indians
The Twitter accounts of National Award winning actor and FTII chairman Anupam Kher, senior BJP leader Ram Madhav, and Rajya Sabha MP Swapan Dasgupta was hacked on Tuesday, February 6 in what seems to be a concerted hacking of handles sympathetic to the BJP. The blue tick from the verified handle of Anupam Kher and Ram Madhav also disappeared before it was eventually temporarily shut down by Twitter.
In a tweet, the hackers said, ‘your account has been hacked by the Turkish cyber army Ayyildiz Tim. Your DM correspondence and important data have been captured!’ ‘I Love Pakistan,’ they mentioned in the same tweet.
Kher, who is currently in Los Angeles, said he got to know that his account has been hacked from his friends in India and has alerted the microblogging site about the incident. "My Twitter account has been hacked. Just got few calls from friends in India about it. I am in LA and it is 1 am," Kher told PTI over a text message.
Detailing the circumstances leading up to the hacking, Kher explained that he had received a link from Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Swapan Dasgupta on Monday, February 5 and he had clicked on it. Dasgupta’s account itself is believed to have been compromised by a Turkish Pro-Pak hackers group. “Got a DM yesterday from Mr. Swapan Dasgupta’s account about a link. A first from him. So opened it. Have spoken to Twitter already,” the actor added."Hello there! I want to introduce ourselves first. In 2002, the Republic of Turkey to protect it from cyber attacks and to combat terrorist organizations were founded. Turkey's first cyber army of. We have 300,000s (sic)", read a pinned tweet on Swapan Dasgupta's handle.
