During the airing of the 52nd Super Bowl, American viewers saw the official trailer of the second season of HBO’s Westworld. The last episode of the previous season was released on December 4, 2016 and the first episode of the new season will release on April 22, 2018. The trailer suggests that the Westworld characters are trying to take over the real world.
The trailer features a cover of the piano track from Kanye West’s Runway and a monologue from Evan Rachel Wood's character Dolores Abernathy. “We built this world together, this world where dreams come true,” she says.
Westworld’s previous season ended with the robotic characters turning against humans in the hyper-realistic theme park. Dolores and her friends are now seen hunting humans on their horses. It is apparent that the robots are now going to take over the world of humans.
“We've lived by your rules long enough. We can save this world. We can burn it to the ground from the ashes build a new world,” Dolores says.
In a 2016 interview with IndieWire, show’s creator Jonathon Nolan had said, “Our story is a really big one. It’s the story of the origin of a new species on this planet, and being able to tell that in chapters and commit to aggressive moves season-by-season that propel that story upwards and outwards and inwards.“
