Shreya Ghosal the prolific playback singer of the country, celebrates her birthday on Tuesday, the 12th March. There are some who are very clear from their early years what to make out of their life. Shreya is one such person who nurtured wishes to become a singer. The birthday girl just did not stop with dreaming about her goals but also made every possible step towards achieving that point. She started her formal training in classical music from the age of seven.
When she was in her teens, she participated in a TV reality show in music and won the first spot. Her first ever recorded song was Ganraj Rangi Nachato which is a cover version of a Marathi song originally sung by Lata Mangeshkar. Her Bollywood debut happened in 2002 through Sanjay Leela Bansali’s Devdas after which there was no looking back for this talented and gifted singer. She has sung in many Indian languages that include Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Tulu and others.
In Tamil, she made her debut in Chellamae Chellamae number through Vasanthabalan’s Album in Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music. She has sung for composers like Ilayaraja, A R Rahman, Harris Jayaraj, Bharatwaj, Anirudh, G V Prakash, Imman and host of other musicians. She has won National Awards, Filmfare awards and many other accolades for her singing. Shreya Ghosal is the first Indian singer to have a wax statute of her in Madame Tussauds Museum in Delhi.
