Every year the world of fashion flocks to New York to see the best and newest faces strutting down the runway. Year 2017, however, seems to hold a different tale for New York Fashion Week as staple names at the runway seem to dodge the city. Easy wear stirred with glamour was the concoction served this year. But big names like Thom Browne, Proenza Schouler, Rodarte, and Altuzarra defected.Critiques blames it on the city’s preference for easy to wear collection as the reason for designers dodging it coupled with a messy American market.
“It does seem to be a bit of a rush right now, with some of our best talent heading to Paris. The international press already complains about NYFW not offering enough creativity, so it hurts to lose a shining star like Thom Browne,” says Christina Binkley, veteran journalist and fashion critic.

The New York Fashion Week generates around $900 million for Manhattan during its tenure while providing employment to 180,000 people in the city. Loss of its glam power collectively makes the fashion week lose its position as one of the poignant events in the fashion world’s calendar. Despite the pull-outs, the fashion week did manage to have Tom Ford open it and Marc Jacobs close it.The essential aroma of New York Fashion Week is reflected by how many women in reality wear the clothes compared to Paris which showcases collections dreamt by the intellects of the fashion world for magazine covers. With preferences changing, New York Fashion Week will now add the common woman’s wardrobe with a few top brands.
