After alleged racist attacks in Milan on Indian students, External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj took to Twitter to say that she was “monitoring the situation” and personally looking into the matter, this morning. Three Indian students were allegedly attacked on October 17 in Milan with beer bottles and “abused by attackers for their skin colour.”

A police case has already been registered over the attack and more details are awaited. The Indian Consulate in Milan, tweeted saying, “received reports of unfortunate incident of attacks on the Indian students in Milan.” The advisory, however, has not confirmed if the attacks were racially motivated.The consulate has also said that they are “taking up this matter with the highest level of law and order authorities in Milan.”

Notably, the tweet from Swaraj came a day after Italian Prime Minister, Paolo Gentiloni, had visited India and mentioned closer cooperation with the country.Swaraj has also requested Indians in Milan not to panic and alert others about the ‘risky zones’. The consulate has also asked students to be vigilant and stay in touch with the consulate.
