The coastal state Goa happens to be one of most sought-after tourist destinations. But Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is having sleepless nights these days as girls have started consuming alcohol, PTI reported. On February 9, while addressing the State Youth Parliament, an event organised by the state Legislature Department in Panjim, Parrikar said, "I have begun to fear now because even girls have started drinking beer. The tolerance limit is being crossed."
"I am not talking about everyone. I am not talking about these people who are sitting here," he added.
His remark came at a time when another Goa minister Vijay Sardesai criticised domestic tourists in Goa, calling them “scum of the earth”.
Parrikar further continued, “How many agree? Now you will realise. Basically, I can tell you that it is not to that extent, but we are definitely worried because the drug syndicate works like this. You try to introduce it in some corner, a small group is formed and from them, it reaches out to others and more people are trapped.”
According to a report in Indian Express, Parrikar recalled an anecdote from his IIT days and said drugs are no longer a new phenomenon, as he knew of “a small group which was involved in ganja” on the campus years ago.
He also spoke of another section of students in his school days who would laugh at photographs. He said, “do not have to say what kind of photos they were. They used to get all kinds of porn material and they used to laugh…”
Talking about the narcotics trade in Goa, he earlier said that a crackdown on the drug network in the state has been going on and this will continue till drugs are out of sight. "I have no belief that it will come down to zero. I personally do not believe that there is much proliferation (of drugs) in colleges," he said.
Meanwhile, social media made sure that Manohar was panned for his comments. Here are some gems:

Yes girls drink beer and as long as they aren't breaking the law I cannot see how this is worrying. Please wake up and realize this is 2018! @manoharparrikar— Priya Samagod (@priyasamagod) February 10, 2018
