Safeer Karim, a young police officer aspiring to enter the Indian Administrative Services or IAS, was arrested on Monday in Chennai for cheating in the public recruitment examination. Karim was allegedly communicating with his wife while he appeared for the examination.
Investigators told the Times of India that Karim, took a cellphone, a Bluetooth-enabled miniature camera in a shirt button and wireless earpieces into the examination hall in Presidency Girls Higher Secondary School. His wife, Joy was dictating answers to Karim.

The Hyderabad police made coordinated arrests taking Joy also into custody at `La Excellence IAS, an institute for Civil Services at Ashok Nagar in Hyderabad. Joy was a faculty member at the institute. Police also arrested the Institute’s director and Safeer’s friend, P Rambabu.

Safeer is an electronic engineer and also the proprietor of Karim's IAS, which trains civil service candidates and has branches in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.
As per an NDTV report, Karim, who had joined as a police officer in the Tirunelveli district, 350 km from Tamil Nadu capital Chennai, now wanted to become an IAS officer, the civil service whose members rise to leadership positions in the bureaucracy. So he continued studying for the exam and cleared the preliminary round. It was when he was writing the next round of examination that he was caught, the police said. If found guilty, the government could cancel the current appointment he is holding.
Cases under section 420 and 120 (B) for cheating and criminal conspiracy respectively have been registered against the couple duo. A provision under the Information Technology Act has also been invoked.
