Superstar Kamal Hassan, an actor who has worn several hats on screen is about to don another one only this time in real life. The controversial star has confirmed launching his own political party on his birthday on November 7. While little is known about the party’s name or symbol, it will be operated through a mobile app. Hassan claims that the app will be the first step towards his political career.
November 7, marks the actor’s 63rd birthday but he is not in the mood to celebrate, rather he wants to rid Tamil Nadu of its corrupt politics. The Economic Times reported Hassan saying, “November 7 is not a day to cut cake but to cut canals” at the 39th anniversary of his fan/welfare club.
The mobile app is the first step into his foray into a political career as it will help maintain clean records of funding for his yet to be named party. He said there is no shame in reaching out to his large fan base for the good of the people and if the rich paid their taxes then the country would be on the right path.
Hassan emphasized that the app will be an easier way to reach out to his fans for funding while keeping the slate clean.
Hassan’s confirmation comes after his controversial editorial for a Tamil weekly presented the dangers of Hindu extremism dubbing it as Hindu terrorism. His words consequentially angered Hindu right-wings calling him mentally unstable. The award-winning actor has long teased with the prospects of a political career and 2017 has specially held special political interest for him as the likes of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan invited him to join active politics with them.
