DMK president M Karunanidhi’s health suffered a setback today and a statement from the Kauvery Hospital in Chennai said that the doctors are facing a challenge in maintaining his vital organ functions. Karunanidhi was admitted to the hospital on July 29 following a drop in his blood pressure and has since been at the intensive care unit.
According to the statement, the five-time chief minister’s ‘age-related ailments’ are challenging doctors. The former chief minister is under continuous monitoring and is being treated with active medical support. “His response to the medical interventions over the next 24 hours will determine the prognosis,” said the statement.
Since his admission to the hospital on July 29, the DMK leader’s health has gone through many ups and downs. His wife, Dayalu Ammal had arrived at the hospital on August 6. It was her first visit to the hospital since the screenwriter-turned-politician was admitted. Her third son, MK Tamilarasu had brought her in a wheelchair.
Meanwhile, Karunanidhi’s supporters and party cadres have arrived in throngs outside the hospital and police have reportedly increased security around the area.
