Mafia don Dawood Ibrahim is reportedly suffering from depression due to a family issue that he is unable to resolve. The problem lies with his third child - and only son - Moin Nawaz D Kaskar, 31, who has turned his back on the "family business" and has chosen to become a Maulana, or a cleric-cum-religious teacher.
"Moin is understood to be against his father's illegal activities which have given the entire family a notorious reputation worldwide and made many of them wanted fugitives everywhere," Thane Anti-Extortion Cell head Pradeep Sharma told IANS.
According to reports this development along with other internal strife within the family were revealed during an ongoing interrogation of Iqbal Ibrahim Kaskar. Iqbal is Dawood's younger brother, who was arrested for three extortion cases last year by the Thane AEC.
Iqbal has reportedly told investigators that Dawood is suffering from bouts of depression as he is very worried over who would handle his vast underworld empire in the future. Besides that, his other brother Anees Ibrahim Kaskar is old and reportedly in poor health. All other brothers are dead and no reliable relatives are available to take over the reins of the empire.According to reports, Moin is a respected and qualified Maulana and has memorized the entire Quran comprising of 6,236 verses. He has also discarded the comforts of the family's bungalow located in the posh Saddar suburb area of Karachi and chose to live a mendicant's life in a mosque close to their house.
