Padmavati may have been stopped from hitting screens but the only song released from the film has already made leeway into social events. Former Uttar Pradesh chief Mulayam Singh Yadav’s daughter-in-law, Aparna Yadav was seen dancing to it in a private pre-wedding ceremony for her brother. She seems to have graced her way into hatred of the Karni Sena with her performance who have vehemently condemned her dancing being a Rajput herself.
Karni Sena chief Lokendra Singh Kalvi, who has been leading protests against Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Padmavati said, "We are fighting for our cause. Being a Rajput she is dancing on such songs without caring for the sentiments of Rajput,” reported Zee news. While it is not acceptable for her to dance to the Bollywood song according to the chief, she can dance to folk versions of the song. "We will send the original Ghoomar song and other Rajasthani folk songs if they like it so much," Kalvi added.
Aparna performed to the song on Nov 23 at her younger brother, Aman Singh Bisht’s engagement ceremony. A politician herself, she had contested Uttar Pradesh election earlier this year but was defeated in the constituency of Lucknow. Her father, Arvind Singh Bisht, Uttar Pradesh's information commissioner told NDTV, "We have no interest in any film or any scandal around it. At these private wedding functions, people often dance to folk songs and film songs. That was the spirit in which she danced."The film which has been banned in Uttar Pradesh along with four other states by chief ministers accusing the film of distorting history by showing Queen Padmini having romantic leanings towards barbaric Turk King Alaudin Khilji.
