Uttar Pradesh Govt Knocks Off Taj Mahal From Tourist Spots List
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is geared up to clean the state of Uttar Pradesh with his anti-Romeo squad. Adamant on leaving no traces of love in the state, Yogi administration goes back in history in an attempt to uproot the finest evidence of sheer love. Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the World, has been knocked off from Uttar Pradesh government's tourism booklet which was aimed to promote tourist spots in the state.
Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department released a booklet titled Apaar Sambhavnaye or ‘Boundless Possibilities’ which exhibits most of the cultural and heritage sites. The list skips the iconic Taj Mahal which draws millions of tourists not only from the country but also from abroad every year with most of the revenue coming from tourists visiting the tomb of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz.
Yogi Adityanath had recently criticized the custom of gifting replicas of Taj Mahal to foreign dignitaries as it doesn’t represent Indian culture according to him. "The Ramayana and the Gita represent Indian culture and not the Taj Mahal” the CM had said. We are not even surprised to see the latest version of the UP tourism booklet. The 32-page booklet, has highlighted Ganga Aarti as its cover image. It depicts Varanasi and its Ghats, the upcoming Ardh Kumbh Mela in Allahabad. It also promotes Ayodhya and Mathura-Vrindavan as they are the birthplace of Lord Ram and Lord Krishna respectively. It also mentions Gorakhpeeth where the Chief Minister is the head priest.
UNESCO’s World Heritage Site, Taj Mahal also comes under the list of PM Narendra Modi’s Clean India Mission. But his team member is obstinate on cleaning it off the tourist spots list in UP. Is this a new way of enforcing the RSS ideology?
