A video that went viral on social media showed a massive pileup of vehicles on the Yamuna Expressway. Nearly two dozen cars, including a bus crashed in to each other thanks to the presence of smog in Delhi and surrounding areas. According to reports, the injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals and are currently undergoing medical treatment.
The incident was initially reported near the stretch situated nine miles from the Dankaur police circle in Greater Noida. The smog level had reached to such a high that several cars on the expressway stretch under the Mahavan police circle in Mathura also collided. A report on News18 mentions that the police reached the spot two hours after the incident.The video shows vehicles crashing into each other as drivers lost control because of low visibility caused by the smog. People can be heard yelling at others to get out of their vehicles before other cars crash in to them. It is however, unclear when this incident happened. The video was uploaded on Youtube by a user.
The Delhi-NCR region is facing some of the highest smog levels in years, with schools being shut and people being asked to avoid too much outdoor activities. According to a report in the Quint, air pollution masks are selling like hot cakes and several residents are complaining of breathing difficulties and health issues.
