The new iPhone X has been launched and amidst all the enthusiasm some users have managed to do the unthinkable – they’ve smashed the $1,000 device. Reports say that some of these unfortunate souls braved the cold weather to get their hands on a phone.
News from China mention people attempting to show off their devices. But while that went on, some of them fell victim to their worst nightmares – seeing their precious phone slip out of their hands and smash on the floor.
There are picture circulating on the Chinese social networking site Weibo, of a phone with both its front and back sides cracked as a result of being dropped.
The new iPhone X features a glass front and back, allowing for wireless charging of the device. The glass reportedly should prevent the device from slipping, but it also means that it’s now easier to smash it on both sides.
What’s worrying is that this particular model of the iPhone has reduced bezels, meaning that cracks will intrude right into the screen. Though Apple designed the glass to be more durable than ever, we must remember that it is still glass and like it or not, it will break.
A blogger named Eddy Cheng dropped his phone repeatedly to find out how much abuse the iPhone X’s glass could handle.
The new phone can be insured by AppleCare+ allowing people to choose a plan that charges them less to fix broken phones. That should cost you £199 and another £25 each time the phone is broken, as compared to £300 if it’s not covered by it.
