Prernaa Arora has been reportedly arrested by the Economic Offences Wing in an alleged fraud case amounting to Rs 32 crore. The Rustom producer was taken into custody on the night of December 7, 2018. Reports state that Arora was presented in Mumbai’s Esplande Court and was taken into custody as per the court’s orders. Arora will be in EOW’s custody until December 10. The case will be heard by the court on Monday. Reportedly, Prernaa is accused of not returning a borrowed sum worth Rs 31.6 crore, which was supposedly used for making Padman and Kedarnath.
Prerna Arora is a famous name in Bollywood with her own production house, KriArj Entertainment, to her name. Her company has bankrolled many content-driven films like Toilet Ek Prem Katha, Rustom, and PadMan among others. This is not the first time Prernaa has been hit by a controversy. The lady has been dragged to court multiple times in the past with the latest trouble reportedly rising with a company named Padma Ispat who accused her of fraud amounting to Rs. 50 crore.
Director of JA Entertainment, John Abraham, also filed not one but three criminal complaints against Arora under the IT Act. The case was based on the grounds of cheating, breach of trust and defamation. For the unaware, John joined hands with Arora to co-produce his and Diana Penty starrer Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran. But trouble between the partners started when Abraham ended its contract with Kriarj and released a new date for the movie.
Not just John, Arora was in a legal tiff with director and producer of Kedarnath Abhishek Kapoor too. The battle began when Prernaa leveled accusations on the director for excessive wastage of resources while filming. Kapoor hit back and charged Arora’s production house with allegation of non-payment of dues against her production house.
This clearly isn’t the last we’ve heard on this case.
