Underworld don Ravi Pujari, who is one of the most notorious names in the world of gangsters, was arrested in Senegal on Thursday. According to media reports, the Senegal Police arrested the gangster after a tip-off by Indian agencies, who were informed about Pujari by the Karnataka police. Pujari, reportedly, had a fake passport in the name of Anthony Fernandez when arrested. It appears that he is to be brought to India ‘on a special flight’.
Pujari has been long wanted in India for multiple cases, including extortion, kidnapping and murder. The fugitive gangster started off as a petty criminal and later switched to bigger crimes with the killing of rival Bala Zalte. Following this, he teamed up with gangster Chotta Rajan, who served as a mentor to him. Following the arrest of his alleged henchman in June 2018, Pujari was also reported to have threatened many Bollywood celebrities, such as Mahesh Bhatt and Farah Khan.
A Dalit leader from Gujarat, Jignesh Mevani filed a police complaint in the same year alleging that the hooligan had threatened to kill him.
A couple days ago, Mumbai Police arrested an aide of Pujari, who goes by the name of Akash Shetty, in a village in Mangalore.
