Over the last few months, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been slowly cutting ties with each other. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made the decision to separate from Kensington Palace and create their own royal household, which will instead be based out of Buckingham Palace. And, on Friday, it was announced the new parents had also decided to split from The Royal Foundation, a charitable vehicle that Prince William and Harry set up in 2009. All of this has left royal fans concerned of a rift between the two brothers - and speculation was furthered on occasion the Duke of Cambridge's birthday.
To mark the Duke's 37th year, Kensington Palace shared a sweet photo of William on Instagram saying, "Thank you, everyone, for your lovely wishes on The Duke of Cambridge's birthday!" Shortly after the post went up, Meghan and Harry commented on it via their Sussex Royal account, writing, "Happy Birthday to the Duke of Cambridge!"

And while it was nice of them to publicly comment, many were surprised by how "formal" their words were, especially following the comments they recently shared to celebrate Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte's birthdays.
Previous comments had featured warm messages such as "lots of love" and contained kisses and emojis, but this one noticeably did not. One surprised Instagram user, replied to their post saying, "It's your own brother, why the need to be so formal?" Another sarcastically wrote, "Wow... that sounded so heartfelt."A third commented, "Such a cold birthday wish. That's confirmation right there that something unsettling is going on between Meghan and Kate. The brothers and Kate were fine until Meghan. Very sad, indeed." Someone else added, "Wouldn't wishing your brother be more gentle? This reads like there is hostility." A fifth suggested that they should have shared a photo of the two brothers alongside a "kind message" instead.
However, not everyone was upset about the birthday message. Some chose to praise the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for addressing Prince William by his proper title. They wrote, "Finally you remember that your family is royal and start writing their title." Others pointed out that Meghan and Harry just can't seem to win as people complain when they aren't formal and complain when they are.Read More
