Hamza bin Laden, the son of Osama bin Laden, has reportedly married the daughter of Mohammad Atta, who was one of the hijackers and planners of the deadly September 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center that left a lot of destruction in its wake. In an interview with The Guardian, the late bin Laden’s half-brothers Ahmad and Hassan al-Attas confirmed the development.
“We have heard he has married the daughter of Mohammed Atta,” Ahmad al-Attas told the news outlet. “We’re not sure where he is, but it could be Afghanistan.” The duo believes that Hamza has obtained a senior position in Al-Qaeda and has plans to take revenge for the death of his father. Osama was shot dead on May 2, 2011, when a US special forces team attacked his hideout in Abbottabad, Pakistan.
Hamza is the son of one of Laden’s wives who was present when the American soldiers raided their Abbottabad residence. She one of his three surviving wives. Since the death of his father, Hamza reportedly made public statements requesting his followers to take up arms against the US, the UK, France and also Israel. He is also assumed to be the second in charge of Al-Qaeda’s current leader Ayman Zawahiri.
According to reports, letters found in Osama’s compound suggested that the former leader of the terrorist group was training Hamza to be his replacement.
