It’s official! Priyanka Gandhi enters politics, appointed Congress General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh East
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has been elected as the Congress general secretary for Uttar Pradesh East ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. This marks Priyanka’s official entry into politics. According to reports, there were many in Congress who demanded Priyanka to get a more prominent role in UP, which was once a Congress stronghold. Priyanka’s appointment, of course, would stir up UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath. Speaking about his sister, Rahul Gandhi told the media, “I am very happy that my sister, who is extremely capable and hard-working, will work with me.”
Priyanka always worked behind the curtains, limiting herself to manage Rahul Gandhi and her mother, Sonia’s campaigns in Amethi and Raebareli constituencies. Since the SP and BSP kept Congress away from their alliance against the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Rahul Gandhi-led side claimed they’ll contest all 80 seats in that state. Back in 2017, Congress had an alliance with SP, but had lost to BJP. Meanwhile, Jyotiraditya Scindia was appointed as the AICC general secretary for UP West.
Congratulating Priyanka and Scindia, Congress put up a tweet saying the party is ‘fired up and ready to go.’ Priyanka’s husband, Robert Vadra, congratulated her on social media. In the middle of all this, the BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra told ANI “They consider family as the party while BJP considers party as the family. Congress has accepted that Rahul Gandhi ji has failed."
