Michael Cohen, Donald Trump’s former lawyer, testifies against him before US committee

While Donald Trump was busy enjoying a four-course meal in Vietnam and achieving nothing of importance, his former lawyer Michael Cohen testified before the House Oversight Committee for hours. American media reported that the Republicans (Trump’s party) tried to discredit Cohen even as the Democrats attempted to squeeze out more details of Trump paying hush money to people. During his testimony, Cohen pleaded guilty to lying to Congress. Cohen’s testimony has given out a lot of info about Trump and his dealings.

According to multiple reports, Cohen claimed that Trump had advance knowledge of WikiLeaks’ plans to publish the Democratic National Committee emails. The lawyer dropped a damning revelation, saying that Trump directed him to pay off adult entertainment actress Stormy Daniels, and former Playboy model Karen McDougal. He also alleged that Trump’s lawyer Jay Sekulow and others modified his testimony to the Congress in August 2017.

Cohen added that he briefed Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr numerous times about Trump tower Moscow. He also cleared up that the president did not directly ask him to lie to Congress. Finally, he added that he never asked for a presidential pardon.

According to the Guardian, Cohen once described himself as ‘the guy who would take a bullet for the president.’ After he was sentenced to prison in December 2018, he said: “I have been living in personal and mental incarceration ever since the day that I accepted the offer to work for a real estate mogul whose business acumen that I deeply admired. I know now, in fact, there is little to be admired.” Cohen will be jailed in May 2019.
