It is that time of the year when politicians find the faults of their counterparts and throw barbs at each other. Narendra Modi does it. Mamata Banerjee does the same. So why would Rahul Gandhi miss out? In an apparent challenge to the Prime Minister of India, the Congress president lashed out at Modi and dared him for a 10-minute debate on national security and the Rafale fighter jet deal. RaGa also called Modi a ‘darpok’ or coward.
"Modi ji, you said you have a 56-inch chest. I challenge you to come a have a face to face debate with me. I challenge you," screamed Gandhi at a rally to thundering applause. Some of the leaders on the stage even stood up for a standing ovation. "I challenge the BJP, let Narendra Modi ji debate with me on stage. He is scared. He is a darpok (coward) person. I have recognised him," added Gandhi. The comments were made on February 7, when Congress was addressing the party’s minority cell representatives at its annual convention.
This isn’t the first time that Rahul Gandhi challenged Modi to a debate. Modi was challenged by Gandhi for a debate over the Rafale deal in November last year. Recently, Gandhi said that Congress could get the better of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections without resorting to any sort of hatred.
